My Learning Philosophy

My teaching approach is humanistic, so it's no surprise that my learning approach is the same!  Here's a pithy summary which I found here and modified slightly:

1) Students' learning should be self-directed.
2) Schools should produce students who want and know how to learn.
3) The most meaningful form of evaluation is self-evaluation.
4) Feelings, as well as knowledge, are important in the learning process.
5) Students learn best in a non-threatening environment.

I'm also a proponent of the idea that language is a complex system.  I don't intend to go into it, but my posts will reflect that perspective.  For  a great overview of this proposal, take a look at Diane Larsen-Freeman's keynote at the 2014 TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) Convention.  If you prefer to read, here is a summary she wrote in Language Magazine at about the same time.
